Robert M. Cunningham is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and has practiced law in Brunswick since 1978.  Mr. Cunningham joined Gilbert, Harrell, Sumerford & Martin, P.C. as a partner in 2008 and belongs to the firm's Bankruptcy and Creditor Rights, Corporate, Real Estate, Social Security Disability, and Trusts & Estates Practice Groups.  He has received an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, indicating preeminent legal ability and the highest ethical standards.

Mr. Cunningham is a member of the State Bar of Georgia's Bankruptcy and Real Property Sections and volunteers in the Fee Arbitration program. He belongs to the American Bankruptcy Institute and is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Coastal Bankruptcy Law Institute. Mr. Cunningham is a past president of the Brunswick-Glynn County Bar Association and served as legal advisor for Hospice of the Golden Isles, Inc. for 16 years.

Mr. Cunningham is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina and the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Georgia.  He is admitted to practice in all state courts in Georgia, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth and Eleventh Circuits.

Mr. Cunningham is a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica where he serves as a Trustee and leads a weekly men's prayer breakfast.  He is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Brunswick and an advisor to the Board of Alzheimer's of Glynn/Brunswick, Inc.

Mr. Cunningham is married to Sally Tinsley Cunningham. They reside on St. Simons Island with their children, Emily and Jake.
